When I first applied for this course, i was looking forward to learning new photography techniques to advance my limited knowledge of the subject which i am extremely passionate about. As my uncle is a photographer, i have known about different types of cameras from a young age and always been interested in vintage film cameras. This is because of the effect they give to the picture which often changes the mood and meaning of the photograph.
I am enjoying this course as i find it challenging and i like that we learn different things everyday, which is good as i do not like repetitive work. Also, i have learnt many new techniques throughout the course, such as Macro photography and photograms, which will help me in the future creating interesting and original images.
I think it would be beneficial for me too stay on this course as i have not yet shown my full artistic potential. Also, as i am eager to learn new photography techniques to increase my chance of becoming a successful photographer in the future. Another reason why i should continue on in this course is that my technical abilities have increased dramatically and i would like to enhance them further. Before i enrolled, i had a vague idea of what shutter speed, aperture etc was. Evidently, i now know that, for example, aperture is the hole which controls the amount of light that is allowed through the lens. This affects the depth of field.
Since starting the art and design(photography) course, i have completed many tasks on techniques that have been set by various tutors. One of these being macro photography. I particularly enjoyed this technique as you can capture images extremely close up, exposing miniature details that cannot be admired by the naked eye.
While doing this task, i chose mainly too photograph things on the floor, things that were dirty and discarded. The reason for this was, by the naked eye, the object may look uninteresting and forgettable. Were-as close up it showed texture and beauty.
Although i do like most photography techniques, there are some that i found less excitable. One being light trails /painting with light. Although it is a fun activity and produces impressive shapes in the air, i personally find it uninspiring and too manufactured.
Throughout my life while experimenting with photography and viewing other artists work, i have developed personal style when it comes to taking photographs. This is that, while sometimes necessary, i do not like to edit my pictures to an obvious manner, and prefer to rely on natural light rather then using studio lights.
Another subject i enjoyed was street photography. I enjoyed this as it is about capturing natural and ordinary moments as they unfold with the public space as their setting.
While shooting street photography i researched Darren Hall whose work i found very interesting, especially his 'shafted' pieces. I also found street photography interesting as i find people very intriguing and often wonder about the people in Darren Halls pictures are thinking.

Although I believe I should stay on this course and would benefit from the course in the future, i do think i need to improve on my concentration skills. This will help me with projects in the future and enable me to complete tasks quickly and efficiently.
