Project - Studio Photography.

This is the final piece of my project. We were asked to produce a project which improves on a photography technique/type that we have all ready completed. I chose studio photography as i thought this was a subject that i needed to improve on. I set up the studio by turning the studio light to 2 and placed them at the sides of the white backdrop. After experimenting with the lights in this position, i then moved the models forward to erase any shadows being showed on the backdrop, them moved the two lights in front of them and closer to create a 'burnt out' effect. This makes them appear to have a flawless complexion and look brighter. If i was to change anything about this project, i would experiment more with the position and brightness of the lights and camera angles.

Paris.

I recently went to Paris, France were i took pictures of various tourist destinations. I also tried to incorporate different past projects such as street photography and macro photography into my images. I used no flash in most of these pictures as i prefer natural light and like the effect it gives to the images. i also shot them all in manual. I like these images as i think they document my trip and show examples of  different forms of light and how it can effect the image.

Essay - Why should i be on this course?

When I first applied for this course, i was looking forward to learning new photography techniques to advance my limited knowledge of the subject which i am extremely passionate about. As my uncle is a photographer, i have known about different types of cameras from a young age and always been interested in vintage film cameras. This is because of the effect they give to the picture which often changes the mood and meaning of the photograph.
I am enjoying this course as i find it challenging and i like that we learn different things everyday, which is good as i do not like repetitive work. Also, i have learnt many new techniques throughout the course, such as Macro photography and photograms, which will help me in the future creating interesting and original images.
I think it would be beneficial for me too stay on this course as i have not yet shown my full artistic potential. Also, as i am eager to learn new photography techniques to increase my chance of becoming a successful photographer in the future. Another reason why i should continue on in this course is that my technical abilities have increased dramatically and i would like to enhance them further. Before i enrolled, i had a vague idea of what shutter speed, aperture etc was. Evidently, i now know that, for example, aperture is the hole which controls the amount of light that is allowed through the lens. This affects the depth of field.
Since starting the art and design(photography) course, i have completed many tasks on techniques that have been set by various tutors. One of these being macro photography. I particularly enjoyed this technique as you can capture images extremely close up, exposing miniature details that cannot be admired by the naked eye.
While doing this task, i chose mainly too photograph things on the floor, things that were dirty and discarded. The reason for this was, by the naked eye, the object may look uninteresting and forgettable. Were-as close up it showed texture and beauty.
Although i do like most photography techniques, there are some that i found less excitable. One being light trails /painting with light. Although it is a fun activity and produces impressive shapes in the air, i personally find it uninspiring and too manufactured.
Throughout my life while experimenting with photography and viewing other artists work, i have developed personal style when it comes to taking photographs. This is that, while sometimes necessary, i do not like to edit my pictures to an obvious manner, and prefer to rely on natural light rather then using studio lights.
Another subject i enjoyed was street photography. I enjoyed this as it is about capturing natural and ordinary moments as they unfold with the public space as their setting.
While shooting street photography i researched Darren Hall whose work i found very interesting, especially his 'shafted' pieces. I also found street photography interesting as i find people very intriguing and often wonder about the people in Darren Halls pictures are thinking.
Although I believe I should stay on this course and would benefit from the course in the future, i do think i need to improve on my concentration skills. This will help me with projects in the future and enable me to complete tasks quickly and efficiently.

Final Macro Work.

In addition to my first macro pieces, i wanted to expand my understanding of the technique. I decided to practice this technique further by photographing images with texture in different environments. I created the macro effect by turning the setting on my camera to close-up/macro and my ISO to 800. I like the images i took as i think they are an improvement to my original pictures. I also edited these pictures in photoshop using crop and the clone stamp tool.

Practicing with Photoshop.

Using Tim Los' original photographs, i attempted to manipulate and edit the images to make the models appearance seem flawless and eliminate any darkness or objects in the background. Also, i practiced using different techniques to make one of the models in the picture below appear to have no mouth.

Macro.

Macro Photography is close up photography, usually of very small objects. Usually to create the macro effect photographers would use a macro lens, however i did not have one so had to achieve the effect using a 18-35mm lens. I turned my camera to the close up/ macro setting and my ISO to auto. I tried to choose interesting objects that had unusual textures and shapes. These pictures were all taken in the surrounding areas of Park lane College.  When we returned from taking the pictures, we went on Photoshop to crop and edit the pictures to accentuate certain areas of the image.

In this image, I chose to make it black and white to connote how disgusting and disturbing the moldy chips were.

Slideshowww.

This a slideshow created using iMovie. Before this, i created a slide show without a theme but then experimented with different ones afterwards. The music i used was examples ;shot yourself in the foot again' which i thought fitted the pictures as it is upbeat. These pictures were taken from this blog as i wanted to use original photographs.
